In the year 2025, my annual 14 days of poetry felt more bold than before. Again, due to my love for all of the arts I started to do research. I found there were so many black photographers who were out in the world capturing Black intimacy, joy, as well as the exact opposite of that, such things as loss and isolation.
I once heard, when you get with someone, you are giving them the power to hurt you. This is how I see the photos that are attached to the poems. It reflects that with love, although it can feel so euphoric it can be depleting. Over time, I have experienced this not with just relationships but also friendships, sisterhood, and so on.
My 3rd annual 14 Days of Poetry was more fun though. I played with repetition, imagery, and more but it was also very hard. To be honest I was not entirely impressed with the men I was entertaining, they are after all mostly my muse. But this time around I was able to reflect on past relationships, think about future ones, and tap into a side of myself I rarely do. This is why I love my 14 Days of Poetry and I am so happy to have kept it going. It pushes me out of my comfort zone and has forced me to write about my favorite topic, for my favorite holiday regardless if I am in love and/or like with someone.
